Spain will have a different look at next year's EuroBasket in Poland following the announcement that long-serving captain Carlos Jimenez has retired from international basketball.
Jimenez, 32, played in his last game on Sunday at the Olympics in Spain's gold-medal game defeat to the United States.
The Unicaja Malaga forward led Spain to silver medals at the 1999, 2003 and 2007 EuroBaskets, bronze in 2001 and gold at the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
"I am really satisfied," Jimenez said. "Things have gone really well for me. I've been a part of a fantastic group.
"When I look back, the work of many years has paid off."
Spain playmaker Jose Manuel Calderon, who became emotional when Jimenez informed his teammates that he would not continue, looked ahead to Poland.
"It's early days," Calderon said, "but we are missing a EuroBasket gold which this national team has never achieved and hopefully we can do that next year."
Jimenez made his debut with the national team in 1997 and went on to earn 187 caps.
