Spanish international point guard Jose Manuel Calderon is back home after undergoing an emergency appendix operation.

A likely starter for Spain at this summer's Eurobasket, Calderon was operated on in Madrid on Saturday night after suffering stomach pains as his Tau Ceramica side travelled to Las Palmas for a play-off game.

It is unlikely that Calderon will play until after the campaign, but he said: "I want to finish the season playing."

Mario Pesquera can ill afford to lose any of his frontline players for the Eurobasket as Spain attempt to duplicate their silver medal triumph in Sweden two years ago, or even go one better by snatching gold.
