Gennadi Zaschuk's Ukraine train is headed to next summer's Eurobasket in Serbia & Montenegro
after beating Hungary to second place in Group C on Saturday.

Ukraine, who lost three of their first four qualifying games, defeated the Hungarians 77-70 to even their record at three victories and three defeats.

Serhiy Lishchuk had a team-high 20 points to pace Ukraine.

Hungary had won the first encounter between the two sides, 90-67, and were looking good bets to play in their first European Championships since 1969.

The turning point in their qualifying campaign came on September 18, when they travelled to previously winless Belgium and lost 101-97 in triple overtime. Andras Zsoldas' men then fell in their next two games.

France completed a magnificent qualification campaign by winning an afternoon game in Poland, 86-83. Deprived of San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker, Les Bleus coach Claude Bergeaud led his side to five straight wins after an opening game defeat at Slovenia.

They now await the result of Slovenia's clash with the Czech Republic to see which side goes into the Eurobasket as Group D winners. If Slovenia win, they will have an identical record with the French.

Since each recorded a 16-point win against the other, overall points difference in the group will decide which team clinches the group.

Both France and Slovenia have already booked places in the Eurobasket as the top two teams.
France had a 17-point lead going into the fourth quarter against Poland but allowed their hosts to fight back to lose by just three.

Alain Digbeu had 17 points in a winning cause.
