 Hungary Prepare for Qualifying

06.08.2004

Hungary men's coach Andras Zsoldos may not have three important players for September's
qualifying games for the 2005 Eurobasket.

Hungary will travel to play Croatia in friendlies twice next week, in Sibenik on Thursday and Zadar on Sunday.

But Zsoldos still has to determine whether Ledon Green, Robert Gulyas and Kornel David will play any part in Hungary's Group C qualifying matches against Ukraine, Germany and Belgium.
David, who played for the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA, missed part of last season with Tau Ceramica in Spain because of a hernia problem.

The Florida-born Gr een is waiting for the official paperwork to come through to confirm his Hungarian nationality.

The 30-year-old forward has moved from Debrecen to Budapest MAFC and Zsoldos is hopeful he will become a naturalised Hungarian in time to join the squad.

Former ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne player Robert Gulyas is without a club at present and will only play for Hungary if he is adequately insured.

But Zsoldos and technical director Gabor Plezer are happy with the squad, which has an excellent chance to go through from Group C.

"Most of the members have played together for years so there should no problem with them working together as a team," said Prezer.

Training sessions have been held in Kaposvar and Paks.

"We organised our training camps in towns where we are going to play our qualifying games," said Prezer.

Hungary's 14-man squad: Zalan Meszaros, Gergely Fodor, Akos Horvath, Laszlo Kalman, Istvan Nemeth, Balazs Simon, Gabor Denes, Tibor Pankar, Tamas Kaman, Erno Sitku, Laszlo Czigler, Zoltan Bencze, Marton Bader and Henrik Gobi.
