Career: Iraklis (Greece-ESAKE, 1999-2004), Panathinaikos (Greece-ESAKE, 2004-07)
At the age of 26, the "Diamond" already has a basketball court named in his honour in his hometown of Kastoria, in the Northwest part of Greece, where he is a local hero. For Panathinaikos, which just won another Euroleague title in May 2007, Diamantidis is the team leader. For the National Team he is the man who does everything, though off of the court, he is amazingly humble, hates to talk about himself and rarely gives interviews. The 27-year-old has been voted “Defender of the Year” in the Euroleague three consecutive times and MVP of the ESAKE league in 2005-06. An Iron Man who hasn't missed a game at the national or international level since 2004, he seems to never tire and gives 120% at all times. A few months ago there was a rumour that rivals Olympiakos were about to offer him a big contract for the next seasons. Just hours later, the owner of Panathinaikos offered him a “king size” contract that kept him at the club until 2010 at just over 1.5 million euros per year. Diamantidis was named MVP of the 2007 Euroleague Final and voted to the Euroleague First Team last season. Since the summer of 2005, Dimitris has won a EuroBasket (2005), a silver medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship and a Euroleague. What could be next?
