PLAYER PROFILE

Sacha Giffa

Career: Levallois (France-Pro A and B, 1995-99), Chalon (France-Pro A, 1999-2002), ASVEL (France-Pro A, 2002-04), Ionikos (Greece-ESAKE, 2004), Leche Rio Lugo (Spain-ACB, 2005), Pau-Orthez (France-Pro A, 2005), Strasbourg (France-Pro A, 2005-07).

Nicknamed “The Shaker” for his ability to bang with any opponent inside the paint, Giffa is another in a long line of French post players who are undersized but have great athletic abilities. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Giffa became a contender for National Team selection only when he started to develop a reliable three-point shot. The 30-year-old had a tumultuous first season abroad, starting in Greece (Lonikos), where he didn’t get paid and then moved to Spain (Lugo) before finishing his trip with a few playoff games with Pau-Orthez. He bounced back with Strasbourg, playing well in the 2005-06 Euroleague, before injuring his achilles' tendon late in the season. He managed a good come back in 2007, but will that be enough to make the cut?
