PLAYER PROFILE

Career: Pau-Orthez (France-Pro A, 1998-2003), Golden State Warriors (2003-07). Selected in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft (#11) by the Golden State Warriors.

Michael Pietrus is one of the flashiest players to ever come out of Europe but far from being the most efficient.  Pietrus’ story is as sad as it is beautiful. Born and raised in Guadeloupe, Mickaël was orphaned at a very young age and came to Pau-Orthez as a teenager where he found a family. Unbelievably athletic, he is a streak shooter who, when motivated, can be a nightmare for those facing his defensive pressure. Pietrus has already won three medals with France: gold at the U18 level and a pair of bronze medals from the U20 European Championship and EuroBasket 2005. Pietrus has had four rocky seasons with the Golden State Warriors, marked by promising sparks but also by inconsistency. He was seeing very little playing time before the arrival of Don Nelson but under the veteran coach’s guidance, "MP2" seemed to focus more on defense, rebounding and team ball. Pietrus played terribly last summer in Japan, waiting for the ball behind the three-point line and missing most of the shots he took. He wants to be a go-to player for the National Team, but needs to show more than he did to even make the team this time.
