 Domercant Boost For Bosnia-Herzegovina

26.08.2005

Bosnia-Herzegovina have added an important new face to the mix in their bid for success at the EuroBasket with American-born Henry Domercant receiving citizenship and a place in the national team.

There should be no underestimating the impact of a player like Domercant, the star of Turkish champions Efes Pilsen who, according to the country's federation, had expressed an interest in playing for Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Domercant and Damir Mrsic would make a formidable back court
The Illinois native averaged more than 17 points a game for Efes in the Euroleague Top 16 last season, firing them into the quarter-finals of the competition where they were beaten by Panathinaikos.

With 1.88m point guard Damir Mrsic - a tough-as-nails competitor and one of the most underrated guards in Europe - and now 1.93m shooting guard Domercant in the fold, the team has one of the most explosive backcourts going into Group C games against Slovenia, France and Greece.

Problems are in the interior.

The team will rely on 2.03m forwards Jasmin Hukic and Mirza Teletovic to provide much of the fight underneath the basket for a Bosnian team which will be undersized against most opponents.

The absences of enforcer Haris Mujezinovic and Damira Krupalije are a headache for coach Mensur Bajramovic.

Krupalije plays professionally in Belgium and picked up an injury which ruled him out of action while the federation said Mujezinovic is unavailable.

The Bosnian team has gathered in Sarajevo to resume preparations this week and they will take part in a warm-up tournament in Spain at the start of September with the Spaniards, Ukraine and Germany also taking part.

Spain take on Ukraine and Bosnia face Germany on September 2 in Castellon.

One day later in Valencia will see the winners of those two games square off, while the sides that lose the opening games will play each other.

Bosnia-Herzegovina have not captured a medal at the EuroBasket but they are one of the most consistent teams in that they have qualified for the final round every year since 1993 except the '95 tournament.
