 Bulgaria Opt For Youth

21.06.2005

Bulgaria head coach Rosen Barchovski has announced a list of 14 players who will be the main candidates for the Bulgarian national team at EuroBasket 2005.

There are two additions to the team that secured qualification ahead of Israel and Portugal in September 2004. Barchovski has added Ilija Stankov, one of the top performers in the Bulgarian league, and twin brothers Dejan and Kaloyan Ivanov.

The identical twins, both of whom stand 204 cm, burst onto the scene at last year's U18 European Championship Men. Deyan averaged 20.4 ppg and 9.6 rpg, while Kaloyan posted 16.6 ppg and 9.7 rpg.

Bulgarian Basketball Federation officials are also trying to lure 222 cm center Priest Lauderdale into the national team set-up. Lauderdale, who has led Academic Sofia to multiple league titles, has already acquired a Bulgarian passport and is therefore eligibile to play.

Bulgaria will start their preparation on 18th July and will play tournaments in Italy, FYROM and France.

The full list of players is as follows:

Tencho Banev (MBC Odessa), Boyko Mladenov (LukOil Academic), Stefan Georgiev (CSKA Sofia), Georgi Davidov (LukOil Academic) Hrisimir Dimitrov (Spartak Pleven), Dimitar Angelov (CSKA), Dejan Ivanov (Cherno more), Kalojan Ivanov (Cherno more), Ilija Stankov ( Spartak Pleven), Todor Stoykov (LukOil Academic k), Filip Videnov (Nancy), Ludmil Radulov (CSKA), Julian Radionov ( LukOil Academic), Yordan Bozov (CSKA).
