With his twin brother Deyan, he represents the future inside force of the Bulgarian national team. In July, at the Under 20 European Championship (Division B) won by Bulgaria, Kaloyan Ivanov was the best scorer and rebounder of the group, putting up 17.5 points (5th overall) and 11.8 rebounds per game (2nd overall). One year ago, at the Under 18 European Championship, he had averaged 16.6 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. In the summer of 2004, after one season in Levski Sofia, he joined Avtodor Saratov, in Russia, with his brother. Both had signed a four-year contract. But after just a few months, last December, the twins decided to go back to Tcherno More Varna, where they finished the season. In 22 games, Kaloyan averaged 10.0 points per game in the Bulgarian league.
