Bostjan Nachbar

Career: Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia, 1997-98), Maribor Branik (Slovenia, 1998-99), Pivovarna Lasko (Slovenia, 1999-2000), Benetton Treviso (Italy-Lega, 2000-02), Houston Rockets (NBA, 2002-04), New Orleans Hornets (NBA, 2004-…). Drafted in the first round (#15) of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets.

Another sweet shooting Slovenian forward, the only one at this EuroBasket to be more precise, after Tusek and Smodis cancelled their participations. Bostjan is tall, athletic and quick. Great offensive skills and court sense. Turned pro at the age of 17. Changed teams in Slovenia, where he won the national title in 1998 with Olimpija, because he lacked playing time. Moved to Benetton Treviso in 2000, becoming the youngest foreign player in the Italian League, just like Dejan Bodiroga a decade earlier… Didn’t quite follow Bodiroga’s steps, but posted solid performances in the Lega, again under the eye of scouts… Was drafted by the Rockets in the 2002 NBA Draft quite high: with the 15th pick. Bostjan was very quiet in his first two seasons with the Rockets, averaging modest numbers. In late December last year, Houston traded him to New Orleans. After he enjoyed his best NBA season to date (8.1 points in 55 games), the Hornets offered him a multi-year contract, and he will be playing there next season with a certain… Arvydas Maciauskas.
