 Zelimir Zagorac

Career: Olimpija Ljubljana II (Slovenia-Division 1B, 1997-99), Triglav Kranj (Slovenia-Division 1A, 1999-2000), Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia-Division 1A, 2000-01), Slovan Ljubljana (Slovenia-Division 1A, 2001-02), Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia-Division 1A, 2002-03), Braunschweig (Germany-Bundesliga, 2003-05), Helios (Slovenia-Division 1A, 2005-06), Ural Great (Russia-SuperLeague, 2006-07)

Zagorac was probably the most surprising name on coach Pipan’s roster for the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan since there were so many other talented power forwards in Slovenia. But the Gospic native grabbed his chance with both hands. Zagorac started his career in the second team at Olimpija Ljubljana before moving to Triglav Kranj to get more playing time. He then switched between Olimpija and Slovan over the next three years. The 26-year-old also played for the German club Braunschweig and was nominated for the German All-Star Game in 2005, but came back to Slovenia for the 2005-06 season. This year, Zagorac had a very successful season at Ural Great Perm and posted decent statistics in the EuroCup where he averaged eight points and four rebounds per game. Originally from Croatia, Zeljko has a big, thick body and takes up a lot of space in the paint. He has a very effective mid-range jumper, can knock down the three-point shot and is a decent passer.
