PLAYER PROFILE

Career: Metropole Talsi (Latvia-LBL, 1994-98), BK Ventspils (Latvia-LBL, 1998-02), Slovan Ljubljana (Slovenia-1A, 2002-03), Skonto Riga (Latvia-LBL, 2003), BK Ventspils (Latvia-LBL, 2003-05), Fuenlabrada (Spain-Liga ACB, 2005-06), BK Ventspils (Latvia-Baltic League & LBL, 2006-07).

Vitols is a very tough defensive player who uses his strong frame to disrupt the opposing shooting guards or small forwards. He can also be a great shooter from three-point range and gets lots of easy points off of fast-breaks. This versatility makes him a great asset for BK Ventspils, with whom he won five Latvian championships. In 2005-06, he showed he could play abroad by becoming the best three-point shooter in the ACB while playing for Fuenlabrada but surprisingly, Vitols chose to go back to Ventspils. With the National Team he has been a good sixth man during the previous three EuroBaskets and his experience and leadership will be very important for this team.
