Greece: Panathinaikos Poised For Kutluay Swoop
From Graham Wood, PA International, Athens

01.02.2005

Ibrahim Kutluay's NBA adventure is over not long after it started and now his former club Panathinaikos appear set to swoop for the Turkish international marksman.

The Seattle SuperSonics have waived the shooting guard, general manager Rick Sund has announced.

Kutluay, signed as a free agent on September 22, played in five games after being activated from the injured list on December 14. Kutluay became just the fourth Turkish player in NBA history when he made his debut on December 22 against Denver but he missed the season's first 21 games with patellar tendinitis in his left knee.

In 12 minutes of action in his five appearances off the bench, the former Ulker Istanbul ace grabbed one rebound and committed two turnovers.

Reports in Greece say that Panathinaikos are negotiating with Kutluay's agent in a bid to sign the 31-year-old for the remainder of the season.

Kutluay was the first Turkish player to compete in Greece's top flight, and in 2001 as a member of the triumphant AEK Athens squad, he won named MVP of the Greek Cup.

Following that triumph he joined Panathinaikos on a two-year deal.
