New Bosnia-Herzegovina coach Nenad Markovic has told the side’s American star Henry Domercant he can leave the national team for a week during EuroBasket qualifying preparations so he can get married.
Domercant, who joined the Bosnian team before last year’s EuroBasket in Serbia & Montenegro, said: "I have to say a big thanks for this to our coach.
“It will be great to work with him. I know he was a great player and now he will start his job as a coach."
Indeed, the 38-year-old Markovic was a fine guard and last played for Bosnia-Herzegovina at EuroBasket 2001.
Domercant, 25, is hoping to make a big impact with the team this summer.
He usually scores points in bunches.
But at least year’s EuroBasket, he struggled, making just one of his eight three-point attempts in three games, although he did average 11 points per contest.
A former star at Eastern Illinois, Domercant averaged more than 12 points a game last season for Efes Pilsen.
This summer, he signed for Olympiacos.
Upon his recent arrival at Vlasic, near Sarajevo, where the national team is conducting its workouts, he said: “I am very tired but will be ready to help our national team. I am also a little injured but all will be ready in time.”
Domercant will be with the team until August 8, when he leaves for seven days for his conjugal business.
The side will be in Vlasic until July 29 and then go to Pula, Croatia, for the second part of their preparations.
Once there, they will take on the Czech Republic on August 8 in a friendly.
The first qualifying game is in Israel on August 31.
