PLAYER PROFILE

Career: Hemofarm Vrsac (Serbia & Montenegro-YUBA League, 2001-03, Detroit Pistons (USA-NBA, 2003-05), Orlando Magic (2005-07). Selected in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft (#2), by the Detroit Pistons

Meet the starting center of the newly independent Serbia: Darko Milicic. If it hadn’t been for Igor Rakocevic, Darko Milicic would have been Serbia’s best player at last summer’s World Championship. Nevertheless, Milicic can today proudly ask if there is anyone better? The 22-year-old is coming off of a promising post-season in the NBA with Orlando Magic, during which he has shown flashes of brilliance.  As in previous years, the Serbian giant was one of the top players on his team in terms of minutes played. Often accused of lacking fire, Darko demonstrated he could play with the necessary ferocity and proved a menace on both ends of the floor. His rookie performance in Japan was a success and now he is ready to take control and be a go-to-guy.
