DKV Joventut star Rudy Fernandez has vowed to ignore the uncertainty surrounding his future and focus on helping Spain at EuroBasket 2005.

The end of the Liga ACB season saw the the 20-year-old shooting guard considering his position at Joventut and pondering whether to put himself forward for the NBA draft.

However, since taking part in some NBA training camps, Fernandez decided that the best thing would be to spend another season in Spain.

However, rumours continue to surround the youngster and now he is being linked with a move to Real Madrid, who aim to build on their domestic success last season and make progress in Europe.

All this speculation threatens to scupper Fernandez's preparations for his second major international tournament after playing in last year's Olympic Games.

"You can see the difference between having a year's experience and being a novice," he told El Mundo Deportivo.

"I think now I am more relaxed and the important thing is to be in the final squad of 12," he said.

Although still a youngster, Fernandez has lost the tag of being baby of the Spain squad to point guard Sergio Rodriguez, taking the average age of the party down to just 24.

"We may not have a lot of experience, but the young players are progressing strongly and have to do the job for Spain," Fernandez said.

"Now we have to take things one step at a time and gain intensity while improving the things that don't work out so well for us."

The presence of Barcelona's Juan Carlos Navarro in his position means Fernandez is likely to start the tournament on the bench, but he has no complaints about that.

"I am delighted to have Juan Carlos there, he is one of the best shooting guards in the world and it is always good to have someone you can learn from," he said.

"Having him there doesn't harm me at all, in fact it helps because I can learn from an incredible player."

Fernandez insists he is turning a deaf ear to rumours about his future at Joventut, but hinted a move could be possible depending on what offers are on the table.

"I am only thinking about the national team, my agent is talking to everyone and I am trying to leave it all to one side," he said.

"Everything is in my agent's hands and depends on what everyone offers."
