25.05.2007

Sergei Monya picked up a knee injury in the last game of Dynamo Moscow's semi-final series defeat to CSKA Moscow but is expected to recover in time to join Russia's preparations for EuroBasket 2007.

Monya is among the 19 players named in coach David Blatt's training camp squad, with the players given a July 23 deadline to arrive at CSKA Moscow's basketball hall.

Players have the option of starting on July 15.

David Blatt (Dynamo St Petersburg)
David Blatt was named head coach of Russia last year.
DKV Joventut's 23-year-old forward Dmitri Flis could eventually be called up although he must first declare if he wants to represent the Russians or Spain.

Andrei Kirilenko, who is playing with the Utah Jazz in the NBA's Western Conference Finals, is in the group as well.

Blatt and the players will be at the CSKA basketball hall until August 1 and will then continue their training in Ventspils, Latvia.

Russia will take part in a friendly tournament in Paris, from August 17-18 along with France, Portugal and the Czech Republic, before travelling to Germany for another tournament with Portugal, Italy and hosts Germany from August 24-26.

The national side is due to fly to Granada, Spain, on August 30, with their first game in Group A at the EuroBasket to tip off on September 1.

The Russians will open their EuroBasket campaign against the team that wins the additional qualifying tournament.
