PLAYER PROFILE

Ivars Timermanis

Career: Buki Gulbene (Latvia-LBL, 1999-2002), Barons Riga (Latvia-LBL, 2002-03), BK Ventspils (Latvia-LBL, 2003-07) , BK Ventspils (Latvia-Baltic league & LBL, 2006-07).

Born in the small town of Lecava, this forward has never played for any Latvian National Team at any level. He started to make a name for himself with good seasons at Buki Gulbene (13.9 ppg and 7.4 rpg in 2001-02) and then transferred to BK Ventspils when he turned 21. With Buki Gulbene, he spent most of his time on the bench. So when he joined the National Team in 2004 for the EuroBasket 2005 qualifying round, it was a big surprise for Latvian basketball fans. However, Timermanis gets the job done with an accurate three-point shot on offense and solid defense in the paint, which played an important part in Latvia’s qualifying campaign. Unfortunately, he had trouble maintaining this promising start. During the past three seasons, Timermanis showed some flashes of good play in the Baltic league and ULEB Cup games but he often makes technical and tactical mistakes. For that reason, he will have some work to do to recover his spot with the National Team.
