PLAYER PROFILE

Simas Jasaitis

Career: Sarunas Marciulionis Basketball school (Lithuania-Youth League, 1999-2000), Sakalai Vilnius (Lithuania-LKL, 2000-01), Lietuvos rytas Vilnius (Lithuania-LKL, 2001-06), Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel-Premier League, 2006-07)

In the past couple of years, this young and exciting forward was often criticized for his unreliability. But his first season abroad at Maccabi made Simas a much more consistent player and helped him emerge as someone capable of carrying a team on his shoulders.  After helping his former team Lietuvos Rytas win the 2005 ULEB Cup with an impressive performance in the final (16 points), Jasaitis took his game abroad and proved that he can play at the highest level. During the 2007 Euroleague playoffs with Maccabi, he averaged 11 points per game and shot 75% from inside the arc and 41% from three-point distance for his new team. He developed his skills at the Sarunas Marciulionis Basketball Academy and with club team Sakalai Vilnius. Jasaitis first made a name for himself at the 2002 U20 European Championship, averaging 16.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. In 2004, he was the last player cut by Antanas Sireika before the Olympics but has since made the roster consistently and played in both EuroBasket 2005 and the 2006 World Championship.
