 Pietrus Dismayed by Defeat

31.03.2004

Rising France star Mickael Pietrus was left dumbfounded by the fall from grace of his Golden State Warriors side.

The Warriors were held to a franchise-record low of six points in the third quarter and had their season-high seven-game winning streak snapped with a 95-71 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

“I can't explain it,” Pietrus admitted.

“We won seven straight and we had fun. We played hard, but it's something that happens in this game.”

Pietrus scored 19 points for the Warriors, who shot 37.5%. Their previous record low for a third quarter was 10, done twice.

“We just stunk it up tonight,” Golden State coach Eric Musselman said.

“There's nothing you can say about that. It could have been one of many things, the long plane ride last night. It was just one of those things.”

Pietrus, born in the French overseas territory of Guadeloupe, was drafted in 2003 by the Californian team after starring with French champions Pau-Orthez.

Earlier this month the 22-year-old had criticised his Golden State team-mates for what he considered a lack of team ethic.

He later apologised, after which the Warriors ended a nine-game losing streak by beating the San Antonio Spurs.
