PLAYER PROFILE

Nikolaos Zisis

Career: YMCA (Greece-3rd Division, 1996-99), AEK (Greece-ESAKE, 1999-2005), Treviso (Italy-Lega, 2005-07)

He has a baby face and is loved as much as any player by the fans of the Greek National Team. Zisis gained fame after taking a vicious elbow from Brazilian Anderson Varejao at the 2006 World Championship in Japan. He missed the rest of the tournament and remained in the hospital to rehab his injured eye. During his stay, thousands of letters were sent to him by fans from all over the world.  Benetton Treviso coach David Blatt paid his guard a great compliment two years ago by saying: “When my son grows up, I want him to be like Nikos". Zisis, following his exceptional performance at EuroBasket 2005, was named the 2005 FIBA Europe Young Men’s Player of the Year.
