PLAYER PROFILE

Darjus Lavrinovic

Career: Alita Alytus (Lithuania-LKL, 1996-2000), Alita Alytus (Lithuania-LKL, 2002-03), Zalgiris Kaunas (Lithuania-LKL, 2003-06), Unics Kazan (Russia, 2006-07)

Like his twin brother, Darjus, spent two years off the basketball courts for legal reasons. The 27-year-old is more or less the same player as his brother although he may play a little more comfortable closer to the basket. Both brothers have improved by playing against each other. In the early stages of their careers, Darjus was considered slightly less talented than his brother by some experts, but at present the two stand on more or less equal terms. Although Darjus’ career was threatened by two serious knee injuries a few years ago, he has managed to fight through them and returned in style, joining his brother at Unics Kazan where the due helped the team reach the 2007 ULEB Cup semi-final round. The 2.1 m giant posted solid numbers, averaging 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes per game.  He also shot 66% on two-pointers and 52% from three-point range. His injuries prevented him from joining the National Team for EuroBasket 2003 but he didn’t miss any of the following tournaments and averaged at least 10 points and four rebounds in every appearance starting with the 2004 Olympics.
