Parker Seeks Winning Formula With France

01.09.2005

France point guard Tony Parker believes his side's lack of experience is the main reason they have struggled to win matches.

Les Bleus recently went down 93-85 against Turkey - their third consecutive defeat - as they prepare for this month's EuroBasket 2005.

"The way we play shows a certain lack of discipline, we are not well organised," he told L'Equipe.

"We do not defend well although it should be our strength.

"But the team is very young and we don't have much experience together. There are players with whom I have never played.

"I had no idea who Jerome Schmitt was before I came to the preparation. We need experience. We just need more matches."

Parker backed the approach of coach Claude Bergeaud, with a clear focus on how to win.

"When I first started with the (San Antonio) Spurs, the coaches did not care that I was 18 and that I was coming from Europe," Parker added.

"We just had to win the title, that was all. With Claude Bergeaud that's the same.

"I would like to say that we will be strong in four years time but we don't have the time.

"We must be efficient now for EuroBasket 2005."

France will play a warm-up tournament in Limoges on September 8 before Bergeaud announces the 12-man squad which will compete at the EuroBasket in Belgrade.
