Career: Lucentum Alicante (Spain-LEB, 1999-2000), Lucentum Alicante (Spain-ACB, 2000-01), Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (Spain-ACB, 2001-02), Tau Vitoria (Spain-ACB, 2002-05), Toronto Raptors (NBA, 2005-07).
Calderón is not only the top Spanish playmaker right now, but one of the best in Europe. He will reach the National Team training camp coming off a very good sophomore season with the Toronto Raptors in the NBA, where he averaged 13.0 points and 5.3 assists per game in the playoffs, even scoring a career-high 25 points in game five in the opening round against the New jersey Nets. Calderon is a heck of a player, a fantastic athlete who is always there on defense and who can out-play any opponent on the other end with his outstanding 1-on-1 ability. He likes to play an up-tempo game and can score when needed, but doesn’t like to take too many shots. Running half court offense is not a weak point anymore for him, as he excels in decision-making and has become a master of the pick and roll. Calderon will certainly be the starting point guard for Spain and one of the guys to follow in EuroBasket 2007. |
