When healthy, Mithat Demirel is the most creative player on the German roster. Listed at just 1.80m and 75kg, Demirel can create with his speed and tremendous court vision. At EuroBasket 2003 – his best tournament with the national team – he suffered a back injury which later caused him to have knee problems. This season Demirel suffered from food poisoning. As a result of that his second straight year in his parent’s home country (Turkey) ended up like the one before with him seeing limited playing time. A fan favourite and Germany`s player of the year in 2003, Demirel is also highly regarded among teammates because of his sense of humour. When on the road with the National Team he shares a room with superstar Dirk Nowitzki.
