Former Croatia captain Matej Mamic could soon have a new set of duties, possibly including work at the youth and amateur levels of German BBL club Alba Berlin.
Mamic told the Berlin Morgenpost daily on Wednesday that he and the team will make an announcement on Friday about his future.
The 32-year-old has not played since November 26, 2005, when he fell during a BBL match and was partially paralysed.
He has since been working hard on his recovery and has made greatstrides.
He is able to lead a normal life, but has not been able to play basketball
because of co-ordination problems with the left side of his body.
Mamic, who played at the 2001, 2003 and 2005 EuroBasket events, admits he is a little saddened to have to watch Alba from the sidelines.
"I think about how the game would go if I were playing," he said.
It is not clear what Mamic will be doing in his new role, as neither he nor Berlin will leak any details.
The Morgenpost paper hinted he may work in the Alba amateur and junior areas, passing to youngsters his knowledge of the game.
Berlin have been expanding this area of the club, including having an individual gym for their youth levels.
A father of three, Mamic has often said he sees himself spending his life in Berlin, where he arrived prior to the 2004-05 season.
