 Croatia: Mamic Promises To Return

13.04.2006

Croatia captain Matej Mamic has promised to return to the court despite his scary fall during a Bundesliga game last year which left him temporarily paralysed.

The 31-year-old landed on his head during ALBA Berlin's contest with TBB Trier on November 26.

He was airlifted to hospital and slowly regained control of his limbs and, last month, returned to training, albeit following an individual regime of physiotherapy and coordination.

"I know I am a bit crazy, but I have got to be," he told the Bild newspaper.

Early in Mamic's recovery, doctors were telling Mamic to focus on his health and not resuming his basketball career.

"Last week, the doctors watched me in training and they changed their opinions afterwards," he added.

Having convinced the medical team, Mamic is ready to convince the rest of the world he still has a talent to offer to the game.

If he can continue his comeback with the enthusiasm which has aided his recovery so far, it won't be long before Mamic is back on the basketball court.

He may even play for Croatia again this summer during qualifying games for EuroBasket 2007 in Spain.

The Croatians will take on Estonia, Latvia and Denmark in Group D of qualifying.

"I know my body and I know that I will be back playing within a few months," he predicted.
