Greece concluded their improbable EuroBasket run with a convincing 78-62 victory over Germany to win the 2005 EuroBasket gold medal.

In front of a raucous pro-Greece sold out crowd of 20,000 at the Belgrade Arena, the Greeks used their trademark of teamwork, solid defence and strong outside shooting to claim their first gold medal since 1987.

Greece are commemorating the national team's EuroBasket 2005 gold medal triumph in Belgrade by issuing a series of stamps to recognise the achievement.

The stamps are being printed to highlight the latest feat and will be unveiled at a big ceremony in Athens on Monday.

As the dust settles on EuroBasket 2005, and basketball players return to clubs in Europe and North America to begin preparations for the new season, spare one last thought for the gold-medal winning Greeks, the side that had the most important of ingredients for victory in Belgrade.

Humility, modesty, there is no "I" in team - whatever you want to call it - the Greeks had it.

Nick Galis is still wearing his sneakers but just to play with his friends and “students” in his own camp in Halkidiki. “Spider” Fassoulas who used to sit at the Parliament sits the past years targets Greece’s biggest harbour, Pireus, mayor sit. Fanis “baby” Christodoulou has plenty to do to running his own businesses. For seven years Greece has been searching for the new players who will take the team to the top of the “European Olympus” and revive the medal spirit of the past.
