FIBA Europe Photographers Bring EuroBasket To Life
 By Kevin Anselmo

25.09.2005

Surf eurobasket2005.com long enough and you will be sure to see high quality action photos of the competition courtesy of Elio Castoria and his group of seven other photographers from five different countries.

Elio and his colleagues Nebojsa Parausic, Marko Metlas, Tilo Wiedensohler, Mindaugas Kulbis, Guilio Ciamillo and Jean Francois Molliere have been working round the clock to record all the action from EuroBasket 2005.

Using strobe lights and three remote cameras, including one behind the glass, the team strives to cover every angle on the court to bring the game to life.

The group usually meets an hour before the game starts for a briefing and to plan the positioning of each person. At the end of each half, Castoria sorts through and chooses the best photographs. The photos eventually are published on the web site and will appear in other FIBA Europe future publications.

“I am very proud of the work we have done in the competition,” said Castoria, the leader of the photographers’ team. “I’ve been getting phone calls from NBA people and European basketball people congratulating me for the work we’ve done.”

Castoria, a photojournalist for the last 16 years, is the director of Camillo-Castoria based in Italy. He has been working with FIBA for the last ten years and with FIBA Europe for the last three.

When asked to describe his work, he says, “It is enjoyable and stressful.”

EuroBasket 2005 has been a tremendous success and thanks to the photographers, the memories made here can be re-lived even after the competition comes to a close.
