Serbia and Montenegrin national team star Milan Gurovic will be back to his birthplace of Novi Sad this season, after a contract dispute between the clubs Tau Ceramica (ESP) and NIS Vojvodina (SCG) was solved on Friday. Both clubs claimed Gurovic’s signature and after a hearing at the FIBA headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, it was settled that Gurovic would join Vojvodina.

“We had a very hard meeting and we are happy to have Gurovic,” said Vjovodina General Manger Misko Avramov.

“Gurovic is a very good player and it is good for the club and good for him to return.”

Gurovic’s return follows fellow national team player Igor Rakojevic’s decision to leave the NBA and play for Red Star Belgrade. It is a trend that Serbian fans no doubt hope will continue in the future.

Gurovic began his professional career in Greece (Radio Korasidi Athens) before moving to Spain (FC Barcelona), Italy (Trieste) and back to Spain (Tau Ceramica).

He has been a national team regular since 1999 and was a member of the Yugoslav sides that won European Championship gold in Turkey (2001).  He was also a key performer during the 2002 World Championship, contributing 10.7 ppg to Yugoslavia’s gold medal triumph. He averaged 13.4ppg during Serbia and Montenegro’s Eurobasket 2003 campaign.
